Worth the wait, redefining the modern musclecar, blowing away the competition is how the all-new 2010 Camaro SS is being hyped. While we appreciate all the throwback, retro styling in the latest ‘modern musclecars’ we also hope the shortcomings of the originals do not come along for the ride…things like lackluster handling, Spartan interiors and single-digit mpgs.
The new GM seems to have done it right. The 2010 Camaro is more than a straight-line blaster as its modern, independent multi-link suspension set-up (a first for any Camaro) is as capable splitting cones on an autocross course as its is splitting seconds at the local dragstrip. Musclecar mania started in the 1960s when automakers began dropping big engines in small cars and the new Camaro SS plays true to this theme with its brutish 426-horsepower, 6.2-liter V8. The SS model’s 20-inch wheels and Brembo brakes add at touch of style while providing the thrills its low, wide and hunkered stance promises.
The Camaro SS should be a hit with tuners and painters alike as the LS3 V8 is primed for power mods, it is far more than a straight-liner in stock form and the car’s stylistic body begs for racing liveries and other personalized expressions of speed.
